Meet Vanessa Fitzgerald
Dr. Karen Kaufman is pleased to welcome Vanessa Fitzgerald, NP to the Kaufman Health and Hormone Center. Vanessa Fitzgerald, NP, is a board certified family Nurse Practitioner who specializes in integrative medicine. She comes to the Kaufman Health and Hormone Center from the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine in La Jolla, California where she worked in these integrative specialties; cardiology, mental health, pain management, cancer survivorship, women’s health and integrative GI and gut health. With all of that experience you can see why she is such a great fit here. She completed her integrative medicine fellowship training through the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
Passion for learning and caring
Vanessa received her undergraduate degree in nursing from the University of Arizona, and worked as an RN for 7 years in labor and delivery, NICU, emergency medicine, oncology, and orthopedic surgery. During that same time, she also worked at a health spa providing aesthetics: injectables and laser treatments.
In 2013, after receiving her Nurse Practitioner degree, Vanessa started at San Diego spine and rehab in integrative sports medicine where her interest in integrative pain management grew. Her own athletic experiences at a track and field athlete at the University of Arizona demonstrated to her the depth and extent of pain that athletes may experience and identifying holistic, whole-body treatment options became a foundation for her integrative pain management philosophy.
Vanessa worked in family medicine and urgent care at Sharp Hospital, a leading San Diego Hospital, from 2014 until she accepted a position at the Scripps Center for Integrative Health in 2016. While at Scripps, Vanessa completed her fellowship training at the Andrew Weil Center.
