Dr. Karen Kaufman is pleased to welcome Vanessa Fitzgerald, NP to the Kaufman Health and Hormone Center. Vanessa Fitzgerald, NP, is a board certified family Nurse Practitioner who specializes in integrative medicine. She comes to the Kaufman Health and Hormone Center from the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine in La Jolla, California where she worked in integrative cardiology, integrative mental health, integrative pain management, integrative cancer survivorship, integrative women’s health and integrative GI and gut health. With all of that experience you can see why she is such a great fit here. She completed her integrative medicine fellowship training through the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
After receiving her undergraduate degree in nursing from the University of Arizona, Vanessa worked as an RN for 7 years in labor and delivery, NICU, emergency medicine, oncology, and orthopedic surgery. During that same time, she also worked at a health spa providing aesthetics: injectables and laser treatments.
In 2013, after receiving her Nurse Practitioner degree, Vanessa started at San Diego spine and rehab in integrative sports medicine where her interest in integrative pain management grew. Her own athletic experiences at a track and field athlete at the University of Arizona demonstrated to her the depth and extent of pain that athletes may experience and identifying holistic, whole-body treatment options became a foundation for her integrative pain management philosophy.
Vanessa worked in family medicine and urgent care at Sharp Hospital, a leading San Diego Hospital, from 2014 until she accepted a position at the Scripps Center for Integrative Health in 2016. While at Scripps, Vanessa completed her fellowship training at the Andrew Weil Center.
Vanessa has a special interest in preventative and mind-body medicine and has over 18 years of experience in patient care. Trained in family medicine, she integrates the use of both western medicine and alternative healing traditions such as supplements, botanicals, homeopathy and bio field medicine into her practice.
I focus on a whole body approach including mind, body and spirit. My goal of treatment is to show you how the body is capable of self-regulation, self-healing, and health maintenance. – Vanessa Fitzgerald, NP
Vanessa believes that the key to successful medicine is providing compassionate and individualized care that recognizes the uniqueness of each person. The focus of care should embrace the whole person, which includes the emotional, physical and spiritual influences on health.
I am dedicated to helping others to move through pain, fear, grief and obstacles to health and mental health. Together we can explore new ways of coping to replace these patterns and rediscover happiness. – Vanessa Fitzgerald, NP
